  • SDMS Legislative Alert: Member Call to Action

There is renewed interest in the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy Bill (H.R. 3652) as the result of a recent media focus on the issue of medical imaging (specifically ionizing radiation) and patient safety. Additionally, the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce (E&C) held a hearing on this issue in February 2010.

The CARE bill would establish national certification standards for non-physician providers of medical imaging services, including sonographers. The E&C is hoping to bring the CARE bill up for consideration in May.

We are asking you to contact your Representative’s office in Washington, D.C. Your message include the following points:

    • You are a constituent
    • You are a clinically practicing sonographer (or educator)
    • Ask them to support passage of the CARE bill
    • Ask them to sign on as a co-sponsor of the CARE bill before the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce considers the bill
    • If your Representative is already a CARE bill sponsor, thank them for their support

It is important that we have as many co-sponsors of the CARE bill sign on to support the bill before it comes up for a committee vote.
